When is the Best Time to Visit Sundarbans? A Complete Seasonal Guide

Planning your Sundarban trip? This complete seasonal guide breaks down every month of the year so you can choose the perfect time for your luxury wildlife escape.

Choosing the right time to visit the Sundarbans can make the difference between a good trip and a truly extraordinary one. Each season offers a different face of the forest.

November to February — Peak Season

This is the best time to visit the Sundarbans. The weather is cool and dry, temperatures range from 12°C to 25°C, and wildlife is most active. Tigers are frequently spotted on riverbanks warming themselves in the winter sun. Migratory birds are abundant. Visibility is excellent and boat conditions are comfortable.

March to May — Transition Season

As temperatures begin to rise, the forest transitions to its summer character. Tiger sightings remain good in March. April and May become hot and humid, but this is also when the Moule honey collectors are active — making it a fascinating time for cultural tourism.

June to September — Monsoon Season

The Sundarbans during monsoon is a completely different world. The forest turns an intense deep green. Rainfall is heavy, and boat travel can be challenging. However, some travellers seek out this season for its raw, atmospheric beauty and the sight of forest creatures navigating the flooded landscape.

October — Post-Monsoon

October is a transitional month with reducing rainfall, increasing wildlife activity, and the arrival of the first winter migratory birds. It offers good value and smaller crowds before the peak season begins.

Our Recommendation

For first-time visitors seeking the best wildlife experience, we recommend November through February. For photography enthusiasts, March offers the best light and active wildlife. For those seeking a unique, off-the-beaten-path experience, the monsoon season has an unforgettable atmosphere.
